The Jeffrey Arnold Foundation for the Arts - Vocal Arts Retreat
June 18 - July 2, 2017
The 2017 JAFA Vocal Arts Retreat is a 2-weeks study and performance program designed for the training and development of the emerging singing artist. 8 singers (2 sopranos, 2 mezzo-sopranos, 2 tenors, 2 baritones/basses) ages 21-35, are selected by audition for intensive studies in and performance of the art song, choral, and operatic repertoire, led by a distinguished faculty of artist teachers.
Located in the Tri-State (Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin) area of the Midwest, the town of Galena, Illinois is an idyllic setting for cultivating a new sense of creativity, while validating your unique artistry.
The 2017 JAFA Vocal Arts Retreat will be housed in the historic First United Methodist Church of Galena (c.1856). This magnificent structure, of mid-Victorian design, features 12 stained glass windows, donated by members of the church when the present structure was built. The crowning feature of the Chancel area is the handsome casework of the 18-rank, 1885 Moline pipe organ, which has been in continuous use since its installation.
President Ulysses S. Grant and his family worshipped here regularly from 1859 to 1861. The pew which the Grants occupied is marked with a silver plaque and a small US flag.
